Chapter 10

I might change Mythological Foxes to Youkos if they continue to be mentioned a lot. I don’t know, really.

Also, please bear with me as I tweak around the appearance of the site. Voice your opinions too, if you’d like ’cause they really help. I enabled a mobile mode but for some reason, it won’t adapt a darker theme for reading in the dark.

Anyway, time for this issue’s illustration:

This one occurs at the end of the War back in the Epilogue, the scene where Lolicell and Stolas talks

  1. Using Youko and Tenko in place of the longer Mythological Fox and Celestial Fox is fine so long as you explained what they meant when they were first used so the readers know.

And that pic from the novel. I’m not completely satisfied with the illustrations since I don’t quite like the girl’s outfits and Tenko doesn’t look quite like I imagined. But that picture is ADORABLE. Seeing Kuina and El-chan clinging to him all pouty and jealous because Procell is getting along too well with Stolas is super cute.

    • I like El-chan’s design. As for Tenko… While I’m not a fan myself, I do think that it doesn’t contradict with her character. I’m torned, basically. A longer skirt might win me over though. I mean, that skirt’s way too short, little lady.

      • I can see where you’re coming from, and I’m fine with how El-chan looks, it’s just that with the outfits I’d prefer it if they were wearing clothing that looked a bit less odd. I particularly don’t like the way they seem to be wearing some kind of skin tight lycra-like fabric on their bodies with normal clothes added on top. I’d like it better if they all looked normal.
I’d say a short skirt suits Kuina though, since she’s the little devil type of girl, who usually acts like a innocent spoilt child, but sometimes acts sly at times too, making you think all her cute words and gestures might be deliberate. Adding the short skirt might also be just to add a hint of provocativeness to her sweet and innocent exterior.
I’d also prefer for the colouring to be a bit more vivid. Her eyes are supposed to be red, so I imagined a vivid scarlet colour, but instead it looks washed out enough you might mistake it for reddish-brown or orange, and the colour of her hair is a faded blonde instead of the bright gold I was expecting from a Tenko. Also, since Tenko are japanese fox divine beasts, I was expecting her to dress japanese style, like a yukata or something.
Lets just say my image of her clashed with the illustrator’s. They also changed other details to, making Stolas hair completely different, though with her I’m ok since I like twin tails. Though it might be just them treating her as a standard orthodox tsundere character though.
Everyone has different tastes I guess.

      • That’s the problem with uniqueness, I guess: you run the risk of being odd. If I may summarize your gripe, it’s because it feels more like they’re wearing costumes rather than clothes, right?

As for not wearing a yukata or something similar to one, I’d pin that one on the decision to make the in-novel world to be full on medieval western setup. Or an approximation of one, at least.

By the way, it might be a given but I totally predicted that Procell’s clothes would look like Cloud’s from Only Sense Online.

      • Yeah that’s probably it. I think it just looks silly, like they wear cosplaying and decided to wear half one outfit, half something they’d wear in some Sci-Fi B movie from the sixties. Like something people used to imagine “space age” people would wear.
And yeah, I considered that they were focusing on a western theme too. It would depend on if they threw in more japanese mythological creatures as monsters too though, or if there is the usual eastern land that happens to resemble japan in a western fantasy world, you often see in isekai/tensei novels.
Of course, I imagined Marcho in a kimono too. The sexy style that is loose at the top, hangs off the shoulder and shows her cleavage off. So it might just be my tastes talking……..

      • Also, maybe they changed some of the character’s descriptions like maybe in the LN, Tenko’s eyes aren’t red. I’ll confirm on a later date.
