Characters
Okawa Kyotaro
Race: Human/Awakened One
For Stats and Superpowers, please refer to the Volume 1 Setting page.
Notes:
- He is this title’s protagonist. His face and personality has little impact, but be assured, he is the protagonist.
- At present, he is 15 years old and in the first year of high school. In this volume, his school was destroyed. One wrong move and the title of this work might need to be changed.
- He can seem like a prudent person, but he’s really just your average person.
- For some reason, he seems to be acquainted with many people who have rather strange fetishes.
- After being in 3 dungeon overflows, he underwent a purification ritual. Based on the fact that he got into his 4th dungeon overflow, however, it would seem that the ritual had little if any effect.
- He has been a witness to many deaths and even to Layla’s, who sacrificed herself for his sake, so his mental health had taken quite a hit. Thankfully, he is surrounded by people who cared, so he had made a recovery.
Layla
Race: Guardian Spirit (of Okawa Kyotaro)
For Stats and Superpowers, please refer to the Volume 1 Setting page.
Notes:
- The main heroine of this work…or at least, she was intended to be the main one. She is Okawa Kyotaro’s Guardian Spirit.
- She appears to be calm, collected, and intelligent, but with Kyotaro serving as her base, she too make mistakes every now and then.
- She could revive without difficulty so long as Kyotaro remained alive, so she has no hesitation at all in using [Guardian Spirit’s Devotion] so that she could take on a fatal wound in his place. However, because she is aware that Kyotaro’s survival rate would decrease once she’s out of commission, she also doesn’t use Guardian Spirit’s Devotion lightheartedly.
- She is a member of Kyotaro’s harem…but since mages viewed Guardian Spirits as basically an extension of their masters, the only reactions Uoyama and Yukine had for Kyotaro was to the effect of ‘seriously??’
Yukine
Race: Yuki-onna (contracted to Okawa Kyotaro)
For Stats and Superpowers, please refer to the Volume 2 Setting page.
Notes:
- Kyotaro’s familiar. She is a Yuki-onna, which is a race of monsters that equated the one they formed a contract with to be their spouse. As such, Yukine had proclaimed herself to be Kyotaro’s first wife.
- She was taken aback on Kyotaro’s harem—composed of his Guardian Spirit and, later, a Golem—but thanks to her Yuki-onna mindset of being accommodating to their spouse so long as no cheating is involved, she accepted the situation with a smile.
- Although she generally acted in accordance to human values, it should never be forgotten that she is of a fundamentally different race. Once Yuki-onna deem that they have been betrayed, they are likely to commit murder-suicide with the one they have formed a contract. And without much regard to the damage they might do to those around them.
- Furthermore, she doesn’t believe Kyotaro would ever cheat on her. For all her love for him, she has objectively assessed that he would never be romantically involved with a human woman. Also, for a Yuki-onna like her, the presence of the aforementioned Guardian Spirit and Golem were a good thing as it decreased the likelihood of Kyotaro seeking romance from elsewhere.
Reinforce
Race: Wood Golem (contracted to Okawa Kyotaro)
Stats:
- Physical Strength: B
- Endurance: A
- Agility: C
- Magic: none
- Resistance: B
Superpowers: none
Notes:
- Appearance-wise, she seems to be a young woman with long, blonde hair and jade-green eyes. In truth though, she is a Golem made by Layla
- Most of the materials used to make her body were from dungeons. In addition to those, the main material used for her core was derived from Kyotaro’s Silver Apple. The same can be said to the fuel she uses. The Flame Dragon’s Reverse Scale Item Drop that Kyotaro got was also installed in her. Even disregarding the Silver Apple materials, she is a high-end item that could cost similarly to a top-of-the-line sports car. All in all, she is a humanoid tank, equipped with love doll features.
- As for her equipment, she currently uses a Spartoi’s Two-handed Sword and a US-army-styled protective gear that they bought online. However, Kyotaro have already commissioned Aihara to make an armor exclusively for her.
- By Golem standards, she is an exceptionally high-performance unit. The materials used to make her couldn’t be easily gathered even with enough money at one’s disposal, so even without factoring in the Silver Apple materials, units like her couldn’t be mass-produced.
- She refers to Layla as Doctor. And because Layla is Kyotaro’s other self, she recognizes him to have essentially made her as well and addresses him as Meister. Kyotaro thought the title to be cool, so he readily accepted it.
- More or less another member of Kyotaro’s harem. Despite initial reservations, Yukine came to accept her as such.
Kumai Nobuo
Race: Human/Awakened One
For Stats and Superpowers, please refer to the Volume 1 Setting page.
Notes:
- A first-year high school student with an old looking face and a swollen, muscular physique. Kyotaro’s friend number 1.
- Has a serious fetish for muscled girls. His ideal girl is at least 180 cm tall, over 100 kg, and has no more than 15% body fat. Moreover, he desires muscles that have actual strength, rather than those built for show.
- Miraculously, he was able to see a girl fitting that description. Her name is Kurumatani Tetsuko. He was trying to get to know about her in such a way that was just barely on the right side of the law in terms of stalking.
- In order to catch up to his friend Kyotaro as well as to become a man worthy of his ideal girl, he was undergoing constant training on top of developing a new martial art that was purposefully for the use of Awakened Ones.
Uoyama Kengo
Race: Human/Awakened One
For Stats and Superpowers, please refer to the Volume 1 Setting page.
Notes:
- A glasses-wearing, mob-faced, scrawny first-year high school student. Kyotaro’s friend number 2.
- Has severe “tentacle fetish”. His ideal type is tentacles. To describe it in more detail would drive the author mad.
- Has familiar contracts with multiple Sea Monks and Ropers, both being monsters that had tentacles.
- His main fighting style is that of an orthodox mage: slinging spells while staying behind his familiars and his party member Kumai.
- However, to catch up to Kyotaro’s fighting level, he mastered the forbidden technique known as the Human-Monster Unification Ritual. Using this technique, one can fuse not only their bodies but also their minds—which were also directly connected to their souls—with that of their monsters. Most sensible humans would probably end up in a vegetative state were they to try this. But if they were particularly unlucky, they might even end up becoming a new kind of monster.
- For Uoyama though, so long as he fused with only tentacled monsters, it was possible that all he would suffer from using this technique was severe fatigue. According to the person himself, he could do so safely because the activity was sexually arousing for him. Please don’t think too deeply into this.
- Even if mages around the world heard of his approach to this technique, they wouldn’t understand it. And even if they tried to mimic it regardless, they wouldn’t succeed. In a certain sense, Uoyama might be a genius.
- Incidentally, his sense of values tended to be influenced by his perspective as a mage, but since he has always been an oddball, it doesn’t really matter much to the main story.
Aihara Kensuke
Race: Human/Awakened One
For Stats and Superpowers, please refer to the Volume 2 Setting page.
Notes:
Kyotaro’s classmate. Also, he proclaimed himself to be brother in arms with Kyotaro regarding their preferences in women. He’s a complete hunk of a guy that it won’t be so surprising if he were the main focus in an otome game’s box art.
He is also the center of attention of their class. He has a wide network of friends. And he’s well-regarded by the teachers. He’s a perfect superhuman that excelled both in academics and sports, plus he’s open about being an Awakened One and adventurer. However, he has a serious fetish for plump women. He is such a deviant that he dreams of one day founding his so-called “Plump Plump Land”.
He views Kyotaro as a kindred soul who would one day reach his level of enlightenment. Meanwhile, he views Kumai as his fated enemy. And then there’s Uoyama whom he thinks of as some crazy guy while also respecting the latter’s devotion to their own fetish.
He gets a debuff of minus 50 IQ points whenever his fetish is involved, but outside of that, he is actually quite an outstanding person.
Thanks to his connections and abilities, he was able to hear early on about the rumor of Magic Tools that hid the Dungeon Gates being widely used in schools. Without delay, he launched an investigation and indirectly interviewed both students and teachers. He initially suspected that a student would make use of such a Magic Tool and overlooked the actual perpetrator, the janitor. But after the dungeon overflow on their school, he performed spectacularly by piecing the clues together and promptly instructing Kumai to apprehend the perpetrator.
It bears repeating that he gets a debuff of minus 50 IQ points whenever his fetish is involved.
Togo Miyokichi (Real name: Saionji Yasuo)
Race: Human
Notes:
A good looking middle-aged man who looks good in a suit as well as with glasses. He works in a prefectural office of the Dungeon Countermeasure Division, but that’s only a cover. His real identity is that of a Public Safety personnel.
He’s an elite that has a keen interest on matters regarding the Awakened Ones of Japan.
He has approached Kyotaro under his current public persona and soon earned the boy’s firm trust as a “super reliable adult”.
Although he acts like a ruthless professional in his work as a Public Safety personnel, he did feel a sense of indebtedness deep inside toward the adventurers he had managed to convince to brave the dungeons.
He cherishes a lighter he got from a friend of his who had fallen in the line of duty. He and that departed friend were also mutual friends with Minister Arikawa of the Dungeon Countermeasures Department during his student days.
Presently, he’s making moves to arrest the majority if not the whole Society of the Sage. But alongside that, he is also conducting a certain investigation…
Koori Rin
Race: Human/Awakened One
Stats:
- Physical Strength: B
- Endurance: C
- Agility: A
- Magic: A
- Resistance: C
Superpowers:
- Undisclosed. Materializes in the form of a golden bangle.
- Undisclosed. Materializes in the form of a single-edged sword etched with runes.
- Guardian Spirit: a being that materialized from a portion of an Awakened One’s soul. In Koori Rin’s case, her Guardian Spirit took the shape of a horse that could fly.
Unique Superpower:
- Undisclosed. Has something to do with her persuasive tongue.
Notes:
A high school student that goes to the Sacred Tree private academy for girls. She is active as an adventurer while also being active as a cover artist known as Golden Guitar.
She aspired to become a professional singer, but due to her circumstances as an Awakened One, she had given up on that dream. Uploading song cover videos is nothing more than a hobby for her now.
She lives away from her family and together with her childhood friend, Ito Kurumi, instead. Her father was involved in a hit-and-run case and was arrested for it, but because of that, those around their family began to cruelly prosecute them. As of present, the only family she has is her mother.
Given multiple factors—like her always lively attitude, the constant smile of her face, and her strong sense of justice that almost seemed like her whole reason for living was to help people in need—people tended to view her as some handsome kind of woman.
Ito Kurumi
Race: Elf/Awakened One
Stats:
- Physical Strength: A
- Endurance: unmeasurable
- Agility: D
- Magic: A+
- Resistance: unmeasurable
Superpowers:
- Enchantment Magic: allows the use of magic that strengthens the user and others
- Magic Power Barrier: Forms a barrier around the user by discharging magic power. This is the defensive version of Magic Power Discharge
- Undisclosed
Unique Superpowers:
- Undisclosed, but it has something to do with an apple that glitters like gold.
Notes:
She’s childhood friends with Koori Rin. The two of them go to the same school and even live together.
She is active as an adventurer alongside Rin, and also helps Rin in making content. She earnestly supports Rin’s dream to become a professional singer.
She seems to be feeling some guilt on Rin’s current circumstances…?
She’s rather conscious about being smaller than others her age while also having a somewhat larger butt. The things she like are those that fit the criteria of “things she can enjoy with Koori Rin”. The things she dislike are those that “make Rin feel gloomy”.
She has been invited multiple times by Koyama Kosuke, founder of the Society of the Sage and someone she felt a strong sense of aversion toward.

Policies of the organizations that have been introduced so far
Japanese Government:
“We want to somehow safeguard the nation”, “We want to restore public order to a level similar to before the Return of the Age of Myths”
Principal Characters: Togo Miyokichi (of the Public Safety Commission), Arikawa Rurio (Dungeon Countermeasures Minister), Ogata Yune (Police Awakened One)
Notes:
A den of snakes
Foreign nations on the level of USA and China:
“Ourselves first”, “We want Awakened Ones from abroad”
Principal Characters: an old, former marine, American man who brought down the Beast of New York
Notes:
The preferential treatment offered to Awakened Ones they managed to poach from abroad has given rise to many domestic conflicts.
UK
“We want to bleed the nations in the EU as much as we can while also using them as buffers”, “We want to secure strong Awakened Ones”
Principal Characters: Charlotte Barton (the self-proclaimed reincarnation of Sherlock Holmes), Jane Watarai (a female doctor who, unknown to her, got designated as Charlotte’s Watson)
Notes:
Presently the most stable country. However, its royal family have been gathering more power and influence lately. It might return to an aristocracy system before long.
The new religion calling themselves the “Society of the Sage”
“Money! Influence! Women, and men!”, but its founder wanted something else “to be wed with Her Majesty”
Principal characters: Koyama Kosuke (its founder. He is also called as Akatsuki within their organization), Mysterious Girl (a girl claiming to be a god and the target of Koyama’s fervent devotion)
Notes:
Because they had managed to secure many powerful Awakened Ones and formed connections with politicians, they held great power both in terms of military might and influence. At least outwardly, they present themselves as “an organization that wants to assist people in Awakening Training” and also “an organization that pushes for a reform where Awakened Ones governed the nation”
Q&A
Q: Isn’t that Fused-together Draugr, the boss of the 3rd volume, too strong? That was supposed to be a C rank dungeon, wasn’t it?
A: That Fused-together Draugr was strong because it required the sacrifice of multiple ordinary Draugrs, plus it was backed up with buffs by 5 Elder Liches. Moreover, that power came at the price of needing to prey upon humans at a high pace, else it would it would disintegrate into nothing.
Q: Does that mean that Kyotaro didn’t need to do that fight?
A: Had Kyotaro not charged in there, about 20 or so additional Elder Liches would have appeared and used the many, many regular Draugrs in the gymnasium to mass-produce those Fused-together Draugrs. That army would then swarm the town and prey upon its citizens.
Q: Would there be more fusion monsters like that from now on?
A: Fusion monsters are rare cases in the story. And majority of them requires a dungeon overflowing with magic power in order to spawn.
Q: In the so-called the Disaster of the 12 Labyrinths, the Society of the Sage seems to be the ones pulling the strings for it. But are there really so many people who they could conveniently convince to bring that kind of harm to schools?
A: Schools are microcosms of society. This is only the author’s views, but if someone is offered this miracle drugs called Awakened One and dungeons, it isn’t at all surprising for some to act so rashly. But, well, if the Society of the Sage couldn’t convince anyone in a particular place, they would resort to using hypnosis on some people. It went something like that for places like the Sacred Tree private academy for girls: they mind controlled a student to cause the dungeon overflow.
Q: Oh, so was that janitor uncle was mind controlled and forced to do that too?
A: No. In his case, he did so fully of his own volition. He was completely free of magical influence. This is a bit unrelated, but his hobby is playing on online casinos and apparently, he was seen talking with scary-looking dudes in many occasions.
Q: Isn’t Aihara too capable?
A: Aihara: “I’ve succeeded in making being plump a trend in this school, you know? Of course I’ll go all out in protecting them!”
So it would seem that it was because Aihara was made more capable than usual by his fetish!
On a more serious note though, the area being part of what he would consider to be his “home turf” had a lot to do with how great he was in resolving this ordeal. Were he in a similar situation but in another place, he likely wouldn’t have made this much effort.
Q: But why were the targets middle schools and high schools in the first place?
A: It was simply because many of the candidates for having the Golden Apple were in that age group. However, the reason that Koyama Kosuke presented to the top brass of the Society of the Sage was “this way would generate more public attention, which in turn would lead to an increase in our followers and donations”.
Q: Kyotaro’s high school was destroyed, so would that mean a change in this work’s title?
A: I’m sure Togo-san would do something about it. Surely.
