Okawa Kyotaro

Notes:
This work’s main character. Presently 15 years old and in his first year of high school. Made his debut as an adventurer this year.
Dubbed “THE Mobface”. In line with the traits of being an Awakened One, his physical growth received quite a boost and he was now taller than others of his age. However, that did nothing to stop him from blending with the background. This phenomenon wasn’t due a Superpower of his or anything; he simply had a thin presence and a rather indistinguishable face.
A Boob devotee, but is also part of the [sexy is sexy] faction. In other words, so long as someone could be defined as sexy—even someone without big boobs—he wouldn’t be a snob. He has a strong sex drive.
Despite looking quite discreet and cautious, he surprisingly gets carried away by his emotions. And despite being overall pessimistic, he’s quite the optimist in strange places. I anticipate that some readers might say stuff like “he comes up with ideas better than expected” or “is he really an ordinary guy?”, but hopefully, his carelessness in securing an escape route after defeating the Fire Drake would make him seem more ordinary.
Moreover, had the suspicious person named Hanazono Karen not intervened in that scene with the second Fire Drake, Yukine would have died. Witnessing her death firsthand would have left him severely traumatized.
Layla
Race: Guardian Spirit (of Okawa Kyotaro)

Notes:
The main heroine of this work…or at least, she was intended to be the main one. She is Okawa Kyotaro’s Guardian Spirit.
Has silver hair and has heterochromia. A beauty who always has a smile on her face, but didn’t really feel emotions. She is only the sort of Guardian Spirit who supports her master fully, even acting like a stepping stone to elevate her master to greater heights.
She appears to be calm, collected, and intelligent, but with Kyotaro serving as her base, she too was prone to make some mistakes at crucial moments.
However, with her right beside Kyotaro, his presence further blends with the background. This phenomenon was not because of some superpower or magic though, it is simply the fate of every mob character when they stand next to a beauty. Who would notice a dim lamp when it’s next to the dazzling sun?
Yukine

Notes:
Okawa Kyotaro’s familiar. She has long, black hair styled in a “hime cut” which is a hairstyle that has sidelocks and a front fringe. Her eyes were light blue. Despite wearing a white kimono, one could tell that her boobs were larger than even Layla’s. In fact, to call them big might be an understatement. Oh, and her butt was large too.
She has strong feelings toward her contractor, Kyotaro. This behavior is common among Yuki-onna. For them, such was the natural way of life.
Even her decision to sacrifice herself to save Kyotaro during that crisis was a common behavior among Yuki-onna. Their devotion to their “significant other” was just that tremendous.
However, Yuki-onna were also known to be very jealous. They could be convinced to allow their significant other to have a mistress, but if they judge that their significant other had more love for the mistress, they would commit a double suicide with their significant other. Of course, the significant other would have no say whatsoever in the matter.
In Yukine’s case, she briefly contemplated the double suicide act when Kyotaro said he already had someone he loved. However, much to Yukine’s surprise, it turned out that the other party was Layla, his Guardian Spirit. After all, from a mage or monster’s point of view, a Guardian Spirit was a part of the Awakened One in question—the two were basically the same person.
While that discovery did make Yukine think of Kyotaro as some irredeemable pervert for essentially wanting himself, she opted to look at the bright side: there was less of a chance that he would have an affair due to it.
As for Layla, because she was basically Kyotaro, Yukine also had feelings for her. Yukine more or less treated Layla as a different, unique individual in front of Kyotaro, but she couldn’t help but think ‘what a bizarre fetish’.
Kumai Nobuo
Race: Human/Awakened One

Notes:
Kyotaro’s friend number 1. His old-looking face combined with his rather large build made him look so much older than a first-year high school student, which he actually was. Started working as an adventurer. Up until the end of elementary, he practiced karate.
Has a serious fetish for muscled girls. He has recently started liking a girl named Kurumatani Tetsuko.
Uoyama Kengo
Race: Human/Awakened One

Notes:
Kyotaro’s friend number 2. His most distinguishing trait is his glasses. But ever since his vision got much better due to becoming an Awakened One, he had to resort to wearing fake glasses.
Has a serious fetish for tentacles. So much so he formed a contract with 2 Sea Monks—which were monsters covered with feelers—to make them his familiars.
Aihara Kensuke

Space Magic: Allows the user to expand and manipulate space. Although it would require advance preparations, the user can also create their own Otherworld as well as perform teleportation.
Summoning Magic: Through the use of a catalyst, the user can give form and command a monster that matched the catalyst used. To put it bluntly, it bears close resemblance to necromancy, but don’t let any practitioner hear you say that.
Magical Smithing: allows the user to make weapons and armor that are imbued with magic based on the materials and equipment used.
Notes:
Kyotaro’s classmate. A conventionally handsome guy who can be the centerpiece in an otome game box art.
The center of attention of the class and not only because of his looks. He excelled in both studies and sports too. Moreover, he was especially observant of other people and has good communication skills. Very perceptive of the power balance in the class.
He has a serious fetish for plump women. He was aware that his preference was in the minority and believed that should it be known to the public, he would be ostracized. He has high hopes that Kyotaro would be sympathetic to the cause (the fetish) and even reach the same realm of enlightenment (have the same fetish).
Whenever his preference was involved, he receives a minus 50 to his IQ score. He secretly dreams of founding his own Plump Plump Land, which is his harem full of such women regardless of race. He still has a long way to go toward his dream though.
He has made a contract with a Yuki-onna named Michiru and treats her as the First Lady of his harem.
In truth, he was quite outstanding as an Awakened One and has high fighting capabilities. If not for his fetish, it would be no exaggeration to call him an exemplary superhuman. But it needs repeating that whenever his preference is involved, he receives a minus 50 to his IQ score.
Togo Miyokichi (Real name: Saionji Yasuo)
Race: Human
Notes:
A good looking middle-aged man who looked good in a suit as well as with glasses. He works in a prefectural office of the Dungeon Countermeasure Division, but that was only a cover. His real identity was that of a Public Safety personnel.
He works hard day and night to encourage powerful and promising Awakened Ones to enter dungeons as well as to discourage those Awakened Ones from working abroad and committing crimes.
Kyotaro holds him in high regards, thinking of him as an amazing adult that could always be relied on. In the process, Kyotaro has grown rather attached to him. Togo too had a favorable impression of Kyotaro for the latter’s child-like nature, both for the good and bad aspects of it. But that favorable impression only made Togo more guilty at the deceptive nature of their relationship.
Has a lighter given to him by a friend during his student days. That friend was in the same profession as Togo, but was unfortunately killed in the line of duty.
He went to the same school as Minister Arikawa Rurio of the Dungeons Countermeasures Ministry. They were friends during their time there. Arikawa has the same lighter as Togo and should still have it, but…
Ogata Yuune

Unleash Leg Strength: Temporarily gives a significant boost to the user’s leg strength.
Endure: Once a day, the user can survive a mortal wound. However, it would do nothing to heal wounds, and it also has no effect against instant death effects.
Notes:
A police officer in active duty. Along with Kyotaro and many others, she got caught up in the Crete Dungeon Incident.
She’s a 20 year old woman who has short, black hair. She lost one eye and one arm in her fight against the Minotaur. In place of that lost arm, she was wearing a prosthetic arm which employed Golem technology. And over the eye she lost, she had an eyepatch on.
For her Magical Attire, she has a light armor set with a tight skirt. Along with her rapier, she looked like a female knight.
Although the world all over praised her as the “the hero of Crete”, she couldn’t view herself as such. She was instead battling with serious trauma, thinking to herself that it was her fault so many people died that day. She also has mixed feelings toward Kyotaro who was actually the one to slay the Minotaur.
The top brass of the police forbade her from disclosing the truth about the Crete Dungeon Incident to the public. She still divulged it to a certain magazine journalist, but that journalist soon disappeared. The guilt from this drove her into a corner.
By the way, the one to “deal” with that journalist was Togo.
Hanazono Karen

Notes:
A suspicious person who dresses up in nun clothing. Very tall. Has the largest bust and butt size among humanity within the story.
Has serious yuri fetish. Her favorite food is “the rice she gets to eat while watching yuri couples make out”.
Calls Kyotaro an ally and her favorite steed, and one-sidedly treats their relationship as friendship.
In addition to her silver armor and helm, her Magical Attire includes a giant mace. At a glance, her armor looked so ornate that it looked like a ceremonial outfit, but it is in fact battle-capable.
She is probably Japan’s strongest Awakened One. It took Kyotaro—a high-tier Awakened One—fighting alongside Layla and Yukine to take down a Fire Drake, yet Hanazono Karen took one down all by herself and with just one attack to boot.
Thanks to her basically being inherently good, she would occasionally respond to government requests to cull high-rank dungeons.
The Japanese government viewed her as a wildcard. Great when she was around, but she was often hard to reach and even harder to control. Her guiding principle through life seemed to be her own Yuri Sensor.
Public Safety personnel had tried to pretend they too were into yuri and some even pretended to be a yuri couple. However, because she saw through those schemes and even said “don’t push yourselves. That said, I look forward to when this office-yuri-romance become real yuri romance” with a smile one time, the Public Safety personnel were always at the end of their wits in dealing with her.
If it wasn’t obvious yet, she is the biggest yuri fanatic. She goes so far as to proselytize about it. Her most recent favorites are Golden Guitar and Guitar’s close friend Ito Kurumi.
Also, not much is known about her personal history prior to the Return to the Age of Myths.
Koori Rin
Race: Human/Awakened One
Stats and Superpowers are all unknown
Notes:
A student who goes to the Sacred Tree private school for women. Works as an adventurer while also making video content under the handle Golden Guitar.
She had been monetizing her content to help with her family’s finances, but ever since she Awakened, she stopped the monetization and now only make song covers as a hobby.
Remains close with her childhood friend Ito Kurumi. The two even share an apartment together.
Has a pretty large build for woman. She has a bust that’s splendid even for someone of her size. And with her black hair in a bob cut, she was the handsome-type of beauty. She wasn’t aware of it, but she actually had a small fan club in school.

Notes:
A student who goes to the Sacred Tree private school for women, alongside Koori Rin. She is also in an adventuring party with Koori Rin.
She helps Rin in making content and supports Rin’s dream to become a singer.
Toward Rin who she lives with, she seems to be bearing some feelings of guilt…?
She’s smaller and more slender than others her age. Her chest is flat but her butt is rather large. A beautiful blonde elf girl who also has a rather timid nature.
She has received solicitations from Koyama Kosuke, the founder of the Society of the Sage.

These pertain to powers who schemes to protect their own nations from harm brought by the dungeons through means that more or less poached powerful Awakened Ones away from Japan. However, due to their unconcealed favorable treatment of those poached Awakened Ones, their own citizens have expressed their criticisms.

Q&A
Q: Aihara has Magical Smithing, but is he a smith?
A: he does have some proficiency through his Superpower, but he doesn’t have a legal license or anything of the sort. I hope to depict him as a smith someday.
Q: If Hanazono Karen didn’t come, what would have happened to Kyotaro and company?
A: Firstly, Yukine would have died. Layla would have somehow been able to drag Kyotaro outside of the black dome, but before she herself could get out, she would have been taken down by a Wyvern. She would revive later of course, but Kyotaro, having seen Yukine and Layla die, would be deeply scarred from the experience.
Q: Why did Hanazono Karen’s stats say immeasurable?
A: She’s so strong that she herself can’t fully grasp the extent of her power. Even disregarding her Superpowers, she didn’t know what she was capable of or what her limit was.
Q: Is Kyotaro weak?
A: Ultimately, Kyotaro will be classified as strong. He is the main character, after all. Well, despite his mob face.
That said, he isn’t the strongest. He’s in the high-tier of Awakened Ones but there are still plenty who are as strong or stronger than him. Overall, he’s somewhere between the high-tier’s lower and middle spots.
Q: What will happen if a B+ Awakened One were to go on a rampage?
A: It would depend on their Superpowers, but if the one to go on a serious killing spree and unrestrained destruction was Kyotaro and it was not premeditated, then the answer will be something like a breakdown in a city’s operations in under an hour.
But that was assuming he would only do a limited set of human behavior or tactics. Tactics like him blending among the escapees to get away himself or to launch a surprise attack, or maybe him directly attacking certain infrastructures are ruled out. In other words, only his brute force as an Awakened One—a combination of his stats, Superpowers, and his familiar’s capabilities—was considered for making these damage estimates.
Of course, that meant things like his friends and family being used to make him surrender or the likelihood of another high-tier Awakened being in the area by chance were not considered either.
In case of a B+ Awakened One whose stats were distributed rather evenly, they would be thought of as a human-sized armored vehicle in terms strength and durability, but maybe with the speed of a regular car. They also had Magic to be considered.
At the end of the day, high-tier Awakened Ones are simply dangerous beings for the average person.
Q: Can magic be learned?
A: Yes. Even a non-Awakened person could learn it, if they were willing to undergo years of training and could find a someone to teach them.
Q: Why did the JSDF not come to help fight those fire dragons?
A: the black dome prevented satellites from seeing through. Blindly launching missiles and bombarding from above in a zone full of civilians was simply not an option. And in the first place, things like tanks are hard to bring into dungeons.
Also, High-tier Awakened Ones affiliated with the JSDF basically couldn’t be deployed elsewhere at that point. After all, they were still busy tackling the high-rank dungeons assigned to them.
Q: With the right equipment, couldn’t ordinary members of the JSDF and the police fight the monsters themselves?
A: While the manufacturing of ammunition made with metal that originated from dungeons is underway, there isn’t nearly enough of it distributed…
Q: What can the Silver Apple do?
A: a general outline is given below
A person who ate it would recover from all sorts of injuries and sicknesses. Moreover, they could also become younger by as much as 10 years, depending on how close they are to the prime of their life. More Silver Apples can be eaten to get similar effects. The bearer of the Unique Superpower is almost always under the described effects.
To even say it is a top-class material for making magic tools is an understatement. It is one of the best. It depends on how it is used, of course, but to put it in game lingo: it is capable of making an [item that is competent even in the last dungeon].
Unless you have an outstanding Resistance stat or any protection against mental interference—via something like a Superpower or a Unique Superpower—you will get captivated by the mere sight of it.
If a non-Awakened person ate this, there is a chance of them becoming an Awakened One.
Q: Why don’t Kyotaro feed his parents a Silver Apple each?
A: Kyotaro’s response to that
“It’s too scary to feed my family something that hasn’t even been tested on animals. Plus, I don’t want more people to know about this power. If it gets public that I have this, I have a feeling I’ll be turned into a human-shaped apple tree…”
Q: Does the Apple make Kyotaro eternally young?
A: Kyotaro’s response to that
“I don’t feel anything different, so I don’t really know. But then again, I did grow taller after I Awakened…”
※ He is young and thus will continue to age and grow normally until he hits his prime.
