Silver Apple
Magical Attire: he has an old-fashioned great helm and chain mail. The chain mail is hidden by a surcoat though. Additionally, he has metal gauntlets and iron-plated leather boots. As for his weapons, he has a zweihander and a dagger.
Notes:
The protagonist of this story. Presently 15 years old and in his first year of high school. Motivated by his father’s unemployment, he became an adventurer.
A trait of Awakened Ones was that they tended to be well-developed. As such, he was quite tall for a Japanese. Yet, if he stood casually, he and his mob face would simply blend into the background before anyone knew it. This “ability” of his is no superpower.
Although he might look to be a thoughtful fellow, he is actually just an ordinary boy who is easily influenced and has a tendency to be blinded by the charm of short-term profits.
Name: Layla
Race: Guardian Spirit (of Okawa Kyotaro)
Stats:
Physical Strength: C
Endurance: C
Agility: B
Magic Power: A
Resistance: A
Superpower:
Nature Magic
Magic Tool Creation
Spirit’s Devotion
Magical Attire: Her attire is not exactly a “Magical Attire”, but it will be treated as such in this section. She has a sleeveless, white modified military uniform. She also wears a white miniskirt, knee-high socks, and boots. Her weapons were the 2 staves she made using Silver Apple materials. One was the long staff made to augment her Nature Magic while the other was the wand-like staff she made so that she could use Red Magic.
Notes:
The story’s main heroine…? She’s Kyotaro’s Guardian Spirit and fights alongside him.
A beauty that has long silver hair as well as blue and gold mismatched eyes. She has a figure that most men would describe to be their ideal type. Moreover, she was basically completely obedient toward her master, Okawa Kyotaro.
However, Guardian Spirits are also beings that placed their masters’ survival above everybody else’s. Because of that, whenever Kyotaro does something that placed him in mortal danger, she couldn’t help but admonish him. That said, Kyotaro has the final say one way or another.
Also, she has a different set of values compared to most people. Or rather, she didn’t have anything that could definitively be called emotions. What she had was nothing but a pseudo-personality.
Should Layla die, as long as the “main body”, which was Kyotaro, remained alive, she will come back to life overnight. But since she automatically receives the divine protection of the Silver Apple, she was hard to kill in the first place. After all, given enough time, she can quickly recover from anything except instant death.
Name: Kumai Nobuo
Race: Human/Awakened One
Stats:
Physical Strength: B
Endurance: B
Agility: C
Magic Power: D
Resistance: D
Superpower:
Reckless Attack
Magical Attire: He wears a black karate uniform and a red headband. He also has red fingered gloves in both his hands. On his feet, he has traditional Japanese thonged sandals.
Notes:
Kyotaro’s friend and fellow Awakened One. An adventurer who is in a party with Uoyama, who will be discussed later.
Aside from his old-looking face and rather large build, he has no distinguishing physical characteristics. Mob-face number 2.
Moreover, he likes muscular women to a dangerous degree. Unless a woman is buff enough, he felt no attraction whatsoever. His ideal woman was at least 180 centimeters in height, at least 100 kilograms in weight, and has at most 15% body fat. In addition to those, he is into rather spunky women.
He is actually considering becoming a gym trainer.
Name: Uoyama Kengo
Race: Human/Awakened One
Stats:
Physical Strength: D
Endurance: D
Agility: C
Magic Power: B
Resistance: B
Superpower:
Blue Magic
Familiar Contract
Magical Attire: He is covered from head to toe by a black robe. Underneath the robe, he has garb reminiscent of what a typical medieval townsfolk would wear. He held in his hand a staff about as tall as he was.
Notes:
Kyotaro’s friend and fellow Awakened One. In an adventurer party with the aforementioned Kumai.
Aside from his glasses, he also didn’t have any particular distinguishing characteristics. Mob-face number 3. He has the best grades among the three, but when considering all the students in their year, his grades were only at the bottom of the top half.
A major tentacle maniac. He is more interested in being in the receiving end. As such, he often fantasizes about tentacles wrapping and fiddling with his whole body. If someone doesn’t have or can’t at all grow tentacles, he can’t see them as sexual partners.
This all began when he was fascinated by the sea anemone he saw in an aquarium back when he was in elementary school. He liked both slender and thick tentacles. If anything, his ideal is someone who had both types. Better yet, he would preferred if those tentacles opened up at the tips.
In truth, he is one of the most pleased by the advent of dungeon and monsters. However, he knew better than saying such imprudent things out loud.
Name: Togo Miyokichi
Race: Human
Notes:
Works in the Prefectural office of the Dungeon Countermeasures Division. A good looking middle-aged man who looked good in a suit and with glasses. When Kyotaro wanted to become an adventurer, he was sent to explain matters to the 3 members of the Okawa family.
His real name is Saionji Yasuo. And he is a Public Safety employee.
He was making every effort to research about the most prominent Awakened Ones in Japan and persuade as many of them as possible to delve into the dungeons.
The lighter he owns is something he got from a friend during his student days. This friend worked in the same field he did but died later on. He was keeping the lighter as a memento of this friend. Moreover, this friend had a habit of sending this make of lighter to people they liked, so there was a surprising number of people who had this type of lighter.
The four foreign residents that Kyotaro saved
Arthur is from Brazil and had a complicated relationship with both of his parents. Julia is of Italian descent and seems to have a really troubled relationship with her family. Paul and Emilia were siblings of German descent who were basically disowned by their family. Each of them were Awakened Ones who had a stat average of E+. Moreover, each of them had their own reasons why they couldn’t so easily return to their homelands.
After delving into a dungeon and encountering misfortune, they were invited by a man named Yajima Kotaro to do commission work for the Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Agency’s Magical Equipment Research Division.

Q&A
Q: Can you give a reference for the stat ranks?
A: An E rank means ordinary humans can output as much. D is about the limits of human strength. C rank is around what bears horses could do. B means the stat is on par with the output of a small-scale heavy equipment. An A rank means performance on the same level as a large heavy equipment. A [+] symbol means the stat is stronger than the regular version.
To give an example, a human soldier would have an average of stats—except of course for Magic Power and Resistance—of E+.
Q: How about monster sizes?
A: Small refers to monster about the same size as a cat or dog. Medium is human-sized. Large is about as large as a bear. Extra large is anything larger than the previous tier. The bigger the monster, the more damaging their attacks tend to be, on top of their body being more durable. On the other hand, the smaller the monster, the easier it tended to be for them to move around.
Q: And those magics?
A: Red Magic dealt with spells involving flames. Blue Magic dealt with water. Green Magic with wind. Yellow Magic with earth. These so-called 4 elements were the main ones. There were others beside those, of course. White Magic included healing and evil-banishing spells. Black Magic dealt with spells involving curses and spirits of the dead. Layla’s Nature Magic is relatively rare.
There were also derivations of the 4 elements like Purple Magic which were about electricity and Green Magic which were about freezing things.
Q: How bound to the laws of physics are things and phenomena brought about my magic?
A: Basically, they can’t deviate too much from the laws of physics, but there is room for flexibility. How rigidly they followed the laws of physics depended on the user.
Q: How harsh is the difference between stat ranks?
A: A difference of one rank can be likened to the difference between an adult and a child. To give an extreme example, let’s say a person with a Physical Strength stat of C rank attacks a person with an Endurance of B. Assuming as well that they were both wearing their Magical Attires, the latter wouldn’t receive much damage.
However, for magic, on top of considering the Magic Power stat, the rank of the spell itself—which could be regarded as low-rank, intermediate, and high-rank—greatly affected the outcome. Additionally, it should be noted that a spell’s potency and its magic power consumption are directly proportional to each other. For example, using its lightning attack 2 times was enough to put a Minotaur low on magic power. Actually, the Minotaur in the story had used its lightning attack twice, once on the female cop and another against Kyotaro.
Q: How strong is Kyotaro?
A: If we don’t factor in Layla and her superpowers, he’s like an armored vehicle in human form.
Q: Without specifying which part, please tell us the measurements of the female characters who have appeared in the story thus far
A: Without specifying which part: Layla is an F but is almost a G; the Low-tier Knight is an E; Noel is a G; the female cop is a B but close to a C; and Chifuyu is an A. In case you don’t remember, Noel is the Low-tier Knight’s Guardian Spirit while Chifuyu is her Yuki-Onna familiar.
Q: Will there be other heroines besides Layla?
A: Non-human heroines are scheduled to appear. What was that? How about human heroines? …well, what makes you think Kyotaro is attractive humans of the opposite sex?
